Sonja Herrera


Sonja is the proud mother of 2 daughters currently attending Denver School of the Arts. She actively participates as a volunteer in both the theatre and vocal departments.

She is the volunteer coordinator for the vocal department and participated as a chaperone at the National Thespians Conference for the theatre department. Sonja has also volunteered in several areas such as hospitality, school tours and concert ushering.

Sonja has served as a Board Member for two APS charter schools for two full terms. Sonja was the leader of the parents association of a charter school and attended two state charter school conferences. Sonja has been an active participant in the Colorado school systems for 15 years.

Sonja serves her community as a volunteer for the Joy House, battered women’s shelters, Heritage Christian Center Young Adult Ministry, HCC Dance Ministry and as a DSA parent.

As the owner of SM Designs, Sonja Herrera is a professional interior designer in the industry for over 25 years specializing in residential design, model home design and merchandising. She has designed, facilitated and installed over 100 model homes nationwide. She also has been an event decor designer for 10 years, facilitating events and provides professional decor services citywide.

Sonja believes Denver School of the Arts to be a place of “amazingly talented and gifted students in a magical community” where we can bring our families together in a friendly, fun-loving environment while reaching for a higher standard of excellence through advocacy, healthy collaboration, active parent participation and outreach.
